Top Ten Reasons to be a
Guest on Michigan Entrepreneur

1.  Publicity in the city.  Michigan Entrepreneur is broadcast through Bloomfield Community Television (BCTV) to approximately 25,000 households within Bloomfield Township, Bloomfield Hills, Birmingham, Beverly Hills, Bingham Farms, and Franklin.  This community is home to many of Michigan's top corporate executives and successful entrepreneurs, as well as the fourth most affluent community in the nation.  This is a wonderful opportunity to be showcased in a premiere viewing environment

2.  Can you see me now? In 1967, a professor by the name of Albert Mehrabian carried out a study on communication and how we respond. His results showed our response is influenced 55% by what we see (primarily facial expressions) and 38% by what we hear (volume and pitch). Only 7% of our response is affected by the actual words that make up a message. What better place to communicate your message than on television.  You can't be more visual than that!

3.  In…credible.  Being interviewed is a wonderful way to share what you know.  As you weave your way through the interview, you'll be sharing your background and expertise, interesting things about your company, and what it took and takes in terms of your time and energy to live the entrepreneurial dream.  What you share and how you share it will serve to build your credibility with viewers.

4.  You need to start somewhere. Start here. Lao Tzu, the Chinese Taoist philosopher said, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.” While your goal might be to appear on CNBC or even on Oprah, you need to start somewhere. Why not gain some valuable television experience on a smaller scale. Bloomfield Community Television, today, perhaps CNBC, tomorrow!

5.  A triple feature on www.michiganentrepreneurtv.com. Guests on the program will be featured on the website the week the program is aired, as well as mentioned on the guest and media pages. In addition, a press release will be prepared and issued through an online press service. A guest appearance, a press release, as well as a mention on our website are three ways of getting the word out about you and your company. A triple win!

6.  Be a guest because you can.  While we can't guarantee anyone a guest appearance on Michigan Entrepreneur, I encourage everyone who is interested to submit a short application.  If we think there is an interest, we’ll contact you.  To provide variety to the program content, I won’t typically have multiple guests from similar lines of business.  If you’re wondering whether that might be an issue, please inquire prior to submitting an application.

7.  Buff it up!  Do you want an opportunity to work on your presentation skills?  An invitation to appear on Michigan Entrepreneur is a great opportunity to polish up your appearance.  Practice articulating your company’s message.  Be prepared with an interesting story from your start-up years.  Have a couple quotes, statistics, or other factoids (sound bites) ready to go.  Use your guest appearance to buff up your delivery to create a fabulous first impression.

8. And, the winner is….  Producing a television talk show is something I've always wanted to do.  I attribute this to watching Dick Cavett and Merv Griffin as a young child.  I guess there was something about sitting around and having a good talk with friends that seemed incredibly attractive.  After years of working in corporate finance in the tech industry, I started my own company and then created Michigan Entrepreneur where I could combine my many interests.  Michigan Entrepreneur serves as a catalyst between businesses and organizations that support entrepreneurship and the community.  Through this program, we hope to promote and support Michigan business and economic growth.  All of us, working together, make it happen.  Everyone wins.

9.  Network in progress.  Networking is a fundamental and necessary part of building a successful business.  A guest appearance on Michigan Entrepreneur is another way to weave a connection into your network, at least in the local viewing area.

10.  Put a plank in your platform. To be successful in business, it’s important to develop a strong platform. A platform is everything you stand for, or more appropriately, what you stand upon. It includes your accomplishments, credentials, published books and articles, awards and honors, as well as radio and television appearances. As an entrepreneur, it’s important to continually build, upgrade, and maintain your platform. You must have a place to stand in order for others to see you. METV is a perfect place to start.
